The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged assault and robbery of popular actor and skit maker, Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, with the officers involved reportedly taken into custody.

The probe followed social media posts on Friday, 6 February, 2026, in which the actor accused some police officers of brutally attacking and dispossessing him of personal belongings, prompting the command to intervene and begin an internal inquiry.
Confirming the development in a post on X, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the officers implicated in the incident had been identified and brought before the command for questioning.

“The officers involved have been identified and brought forward to the command for investigation,” Adebisi said. “At the moment, both the officers, the actor, and his friend are giving their statements. Further developments will be communicated accordingly.”
Earlier, a video shared on X showed Ijoba Lande seated in the passenger seat of a car, bleeding from the left side of his face and bearing visible bruises. In the footage, the visibly distressed actor was heard crying out in Yoruba, “I want to drink water,” as those around him attempted to calm him and advised that he be taken to a police station to lodge a formal complaint.
Meanwhile, a man heard in the background of the video alleged that operatives from the Area J Police Station were responsible for the attack, repeatedly chanting, “Area J, Area J police station,” and accusing them of carrying out a “wrong job.”
By the end of the clip, the group appeared to have arrived at a police station, with the actor looking noticeably calmer.
The caption accompanying the video further alleged that Ijoba Lande was robbed during the attack. According to the post, the assailants took his iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200 belonging to his brother.
“I came back from the UK six days ago and was attacked and beaten by police in Nigeria,” the caption read. “They collected my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life.”
Efforts to reach the actor for comments, both directly and through his manager, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
However, earlier on Friday, the Police Complaint Response Unit had requested the actor’s contact details on X to facilitate further investigation into the incident.
