Nollywood actress Aunty Ajara has died after a prolonged illness, a development that has plunged the Nigerian film industry into grief and triggered an outpouring of emotions across social media.

The actress was pronounced dead in the early hours of Thursday, 5 February, 2026, after battling the illness for some time while receiving treatment in
hospital.

Her health condition had earlier prompted colleagues and associates to make public appeals to Nigerians for financial support to aid her medical care.

Her death was confirmed in a viral video shared by actor Tobi Oladele Teemony, which captured the moment her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, announced the sad news.

Subsequently, Teemony issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss and appreciation for the support Ajara received during her final days.

“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara,” he said. “She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness.”

He acknowledged the widespread goodwill shown to the actress, noting that she received prayers, encouragement and financial assistance from people within and outside the country.

“During this difficult period, Ajara received immense love, prayers, and financial support from kind-hearted people across the world.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood by her with prayers, contributions, encouragement, and compassion,” he stated.

Following her passing, Teemony urged members of the public to discontinue further donations, explaining that financial support was no longer required.

“At this moment, we kindly urge family, friends, and the general public to please stop sending money to the previously shared account, as it is no longer required,” he said.

He added that the family and loved ones are mourning the painful loss and appealed for continued prayers.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones, and everyone grieving this painful loss. May her soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
