President Bola Tinubu has approved the construction and rehabilitation of eight road projects, alongside several trailer park concessions, worth over N438 billion across seven states of the federation.
The approval was disclosed by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, on Wednesday, 19 August, 2026 shortly after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the projects were presented and cleared for execution across Osun, Ogun, Rivers, Ekiti, Niger, Lagos, Oyo and Abia states.
Goronyo explained that the approved projects cut across road reconstruction, rehabilitation and highway concessions under a public-private partnership arrangement, with the sum of N159.83 billion earmarked for the reconstruction of the Ado-Ekiti–Iyin–Aramoko–Itawure–Osun border road in Ekiti State.
He disclosed that N54.12 billion was approved for a variation order covering the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta–Iboro–Ilaro Road in Ogun State, while N74.51 billion was allocated for the reconstruction of the 15-kilometre Port Harcourt–Eleme Junction–Onne Port Junction section of the East-West Road in Rivers State.
The minister further stated that N54.52 billion was approved for phase two of the rehabilitation of the Ado-Ekiti–Afe Babalola University Road in Ekiti State, part of the Ado–Ijan–Iluomobi–Imesi–Ondo border route, in addition to N94.24 billion earmarked for the construction of phases two to five of the Ilara–Iselu Road in Ogun State.
On the highway and trailer park concessions under the public-private partnership scheme, Goronyo said N56.75 billion was approved for the development of the 7.9-kilometre Dikko–Maje section of the Suleja–Minna Road in Niger State, while N96.43 billion was set aside for the operation and maintenance of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
He added that N19.70 billion was approved for the development of a greenfield trailer park at Aro-Ngwa in Abia State, bringing the total number of road and concession projects cleared at the meeting to eight.
Also at the FEC meeting, the President ordered that funds recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, be diverted to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, to sustain its growing funding obligations.
The council equally approved key projects in the health sector, including the overhaul of the National Hospital, Abuja, and the construction of a N302 billion cancer treatment centre.
