A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Mr Omoyele Olabode, has commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for personally donating cash to flood victims in the South Senatorial District of the state.
Olabode, in a statement issued on Thursday, 20 August, 2026 said the minister’s gesture, carried out under his Flood Relief Palliative Sponsored initiative, had brought succour to victims and their households in the affected communities following the recent flood disaster that displaced residents across six Local Government Areas in the senatorial district.
He explained that the minister had donated cash to over 1,000 victims of the flood, noting that the intervention was coordinated by a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Kolade Akinjo, who disclosed that the gesture was aimed at cushioning the economic impact of the disaster and providing direct financial assistance to households struggling to recover from the flood.
According to the APC chieftain, the minister’s intervention addressed the core of the people’s challenges at a trying time for the affected communities.
“This is a reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the minister’s commitment to grassroots welfare across Ondo State. I salute and commend Dr Bunmi Tunji-Ojo for rising to the occasion at this critical time,” he said.
Olabode further stated that the cash transfers had gone a long way in easing the pain of the people of Ondo South, describing the minister as a leader who feels the pulse of his people and acts without delay.
“The cash transfers have gone a long way in easing the pain of our people in Ondo South. It shows a leader who feels the pulse of his people and acts without delay,” he said.
He added that such people-oriented initiatives would deepen public trust in government and strengthen the bond between the centre and the people of the Niger Delta coastal communities.
“Such people-oriented initiatives will deepen public trust in the government, and strengthen the bond between the centre and the people of the Niger Delta coastal communities,” he said.
The APC chieftain urged other political leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the minister’s gesture by extending support to the victims, even as the government intensifies efforts towards long-term flood control and drainage projects in the area.
He noted that while victims still look forward to the promised intervention and palliatives from the National Emergency Management Agency, the support already provided by the minister had come in handy and was commendable.
