The Kebbi State Government has assured residents of Birnin Kebbi metropolis that water supply will be fully restored on Tuesday, 6 January, 2026 following the completion of ongoing repair works at the Dukku Water Works.

The state Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Bello Abdullahi Kaoje flanked by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and the General Manager of Kebbi Water Board, Alhaji Isah Arzika and Engr. Zaiyanu Shehu respectively, on Saturday, 3 January, 2026, gave this assurance while providing an update on the efforts being made to address the disruption caused by a burst pipe at the facility.

According to the Commissioner, intensive repair work is currently underway at the Dukku Water Works to resolve the technical issues, adding that progress recorded so far has been steady and encouraging.

He disclosed that the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has constituted a high-powered task force committee to oversee the restoration process and ensure timely completion of the repairs.

The committee is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, and includes three commissioners as well as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources.

Providing details on the level of work achieved so far, the Commissioner explained that engineers have successfully tested both the high-lift and low-lift pumps and confirmed that they are fully functional.

He added that technicians are currently drying moisture from the equipment cores, after which reassembly will be completed on Monday.

He expressed confidence that water supply will return to normal across Birnin Kebbi metropolis by Tuesday, as scheduled.

The Commissioner further assured residents that, despite the temporary disruption, other sections of the water works and outstations have continued to supply water to the state capital, stressing that there is no anticipated water shortage.

He thanked residents for their patience and understanding, while reaffirming the state government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted water supply and improved service delivery.
