Civic Intel Africa has deployed 238 trained observers across Osun State to independently monitor and document electoral activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The technology-driven election monitoring initiative, powered by Tech Pro Institute of Nigeria, was launched in Osogbo on Saturday,8 August,2026 as part of efforts to provide citizens with a reliable platform for reporting electoral incidents before, during and after the poll.
The initiative allows observers and citizens to document incidents in real time through photographs, videos and detailed reports, with information submitted to the platform subjected to verification before publication.
Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director of Tech Pro Institute of Nigeria, Oladuntoye AbdulMojeed, said the initiative was established to create an independent and credible record of the electoral process without influencing voters or interfering with election activities, stressing that citizens simply needed a means of documenting and reporting everything that happens during and before the election.
He disclosed that the 238 registered observers were still undergoing training ahead of their deployment to polling locations across the state, explaining that they would not interfere with voting or other electoral activities but would observe, verify and report incidents through the Civic Intel Africa platform.
AbdulMojeed said the platform was developed in response to challenges associated with misinformation, limited access to credible electoral information and the lack of adequate channels for citizens to report incidents witnessed during elections, stressing that the initiative was about ensuring that what happens is captured accurately.
He said information uploaded by observers and citizens would be verified before publication, noting that the platform would also provide election guides, infographics, videos and other civic education materials to help citizens make informed decisions.
He stressed that the initiative went beyond the August 15 governorship election, describing Civic Intel Africa as a broader citizen-led civic and election monitoring platform with plans to expand its operations across Nigeria and, eventually, other African countries.
The Tech Pro Institute boss said democracy should not be viewed as an activity limited to election day, noting that the initiative would also promote civic education, voter education, public accountability and informed citizen participation.
He called on citizens, civil society organisations, volunteers and media practitioners to support the initiative by promoting responsible reporting and ensuring that electoral incidents were accurately documented, and encouraged Nigerians to register on the platform and contribute to building a credible database of electoral and civic events.
He said the long-term goal was to ensure that firsthand observations by citizens, backed by verified data, become part of Nigeria’s electoral record and contribute to greater transparency, accountability and public confidence in the democratic process.
